SOWK 590 Evidence Based Practice in Social Work |
| Classified Description |
Credit: 1; $427
Place: Brighton Learning Center, Brighton, CO
January 30, February 13 & February 27; 9am - 3:30pm
The impact of evidence-based models of practice on the field of social work will be the focus of this course. Over the last 20 years a number of programs have moved from universities to being implemented in everyday practice settings. Increasingly, with the advent of managed care and the ongoing scarcity of resources, greater attention is being paid to these programs by policy makers and human service agencies. Students will spend three Saturdays learning what constitutes evidence-based practice and studying several examples of programs being implemented across Colorado and in other states. We will also explore future directions as new models are being tested for special populations. Communities studied will include urban, rural, and three Indian reservations. At the conclusion of this class students will be familiar with several evidence-based programs including Nurse-Family Partnership, Multisystemic Therapy, Functional Family Therapy and Multidimensional Treatment Foster Care.
